Survivors (2008-2010)

Less than 10% of the world’s population survives a nasty flu virus. And then what?

Survivors is a quite tense psychological drama about different people who are immune to the virus. They are left with decomposing sick corpses, a surplus of commodities, no electricity, no running water, no mobile phone network or any other infrastructure we take for granted. The situation is somewhat Hobbesian: trusting strangers isn’t a good idea as almost everyone is driven by self-interest and even greed. In the absence of law and order, anything goes unpunished; morality and ethics are for but few. Kindness and humanity is found within a group that nurtures human ‘goodness’, and the members of this group all go through their own transformations – generally for the better.

I wouldn’t say this is one of the best series ever made because most of the psychological processes are a bit obvious, but it’s fantastically interesting, highly captivating, the plot remains surprising and the acting is really good, too.
